How to Manage Election Day Anxiety

Today is Election Day! For some, this day may bring about stress and anxiety. The unknown and limbo, if you will, can bring out feelings of lack of control for some individuals.

Here are some tips and coping mechanisms to help manage your stress and anxiety on Election Day:

  1. Curate your news intake - If you digest your news via social media, take a moment to consider which outlets/profiles you follow and whose content you like. This will help organize the posts you are exposed to.

  2. Manage your news intake - Manage your news intake by deciding how many times throughout the day you will expose yourself to media. Whether it's once, twice, or three times. Consider how much you are taking in. This can help minimize stress and anxiety.

  3. Set boundaries- Acknowledge those that trigger your stress and anxiety on this day. By respectfully setting a boundary to limit your engagement with them for the day, you are protecting your mental health and peace.

  4. Support system - Surround yourself with individuals that make you feel calm and safe to voice your worries and concerns. These people should bring you comfort and joy in a moment of stress and anxiety.
